Out with the old...

In the spirit of re-organizing the kitchen I decided to wash my amber glass jars in the dishwasher to give them a little pick me up.
Well, when I opened the dishwasher the amber coating on the large jar had washed off somewhat.
Now, I can't have the jars looking so tacky.
So, with a few Brillo pads, warm soapy water and a little elbow grease,
 I've got myself new jars!

Amber glass jars before

I washed the jars in the dishwasher first to sanitize and to get a good clean.  I then used a Scotch bright Brillo pad with warm soapy water to scrub the jar.  You have to use a little elbow grease to get the coating off.

Clear glass jars after

I refilled the jars with corn meal, sugar, and flour and they are complete!
Now, that's what I call
Recycle, Renew, Reuse, and Re-purpose!

Operation Organization

Operation organization ihair full effect. As a stay at home mom now I've come to appreciate a well organized home. Well, I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there, one room at a time. I get my inspiration from other fellow bloggers. I like to "steal" their ideas and apply them to my life. so far I've organized my kitchen and now onto the office. Pictures to follow soon. Being organized helps with everyday life, makes it easier to function. Cleanliness is next to Godliness! Right.

thumb sucker

Oh Dear, looks like we are going to have a thumb sucker in the house. She has been discovering her little hands, and she has grown fond of her thumb.  I remember when i was little i was a thumb sucker.  I went to school sucking my thumb until the 2nd grade.  Should i devert her to the pacifier or just let her do her own thang?

O'well, we all have our "security blankets" right?!?

our little thumb sucker.

Baby's First Easter

Okay, I know Easter is a few months away, but i received my Pottery Barn Kids magazine in the mail this weekend and i can't help all the cute Easter swag that i just have to have for Little Miss Bethany.  Afterall this will be her first Easter.  We may not hunt eggs very well, but at least the Easter Bunny will bring her something too cute!

Love the Plush Elephant!

We love books and Peter Rabbit is the best!

Every little girl needs a floppy ear bunny, right!

Home Alone

I was enjoying the weekend with my husband and baby, having a lazy Saturday when we got the call.  The call telling my husband that he is headed to the Superbowl for the week. Have work, must travel.  See, my husband works for a live GPS tracking company here in Oklahoma City and the Superbowl uses there product to track VIP's, players, families, staff etc. during the Superbowl.  In the meantime i will be here all my myself for the first time just baby and me.

This could get interesting.

I'm sure i will be fine, it's just the thought of being alone for a week with a 3 month old kind of scares me a little.  So basically I'm a "single mom" for the week. I can do it!

Splish splash...

Boy do we love our baths and Saturday night baths are the best!
We have graduated from the kitchen sink to the bath tub and we love the warm water. I'm sure this happens alot, but when we are in the bath we seem to relax, ALOT, and by relax I mean this little one can sure let em fly, and by fly i mean little tooties.
We love our baths!

Bumbo baby!  We can't quite hold our head up just yet, but this way we can see the world from a different angle.  This little lady bug LOVES her bumbo!

Saturday's

Awww Saturdays, how i love thee. This might be the best day of the week! I love my Saturdays. Thanks to my wonderful husband, i can sleep in, and by sleep in I mean past 8 am. My husband takes on the baby duties. I don't have many Saturday's left until my duties call again for community volunteer time with the league. I've been out of the loop and ready to get back into it. I volunteer with the Junior League and participate in the cultural literacy program with the local Metropolitian Library system. The program supports kids and works with them to read and learn about different cultures around the globe. Very rewarding!

baby room design

Okay, as an Interior Designer i don't have any problems designing projects for others, i do however have a problem designing for myself.  This is my daughter Bethany's room and it took me so long to complete and i changed my mind several times.  Hope you like it!

Wall paint is Sherwin Williams Blond, my favorite color ever!
Carpet Squares are Interface FLOR carpet tiles. I ordered online and my wonderful husband taped the squares together to create a rug.  Just add a rug / floor protector underneath and you are set. The chair is IKEA, Buddy the dog not included with purchase of chair.

Window treatments are floor length panels on double rod with sheer panel behind. Sheep panel and draper rods purchased at Kohl's.  Panel fabric is Waverly To the Zoo.  I purchased the chandelier from Hobby Lobby, half off, and it works perfect in the space.  The mirror is also Hobby Lobby, half off.  I spend so much time at Hobby Lobby i should own stock!
I made some homemade cleaning wipes and wanted to share with everyone. Enjoy!

Homemade cleaning wipes

Supplies needed:
1. Tall plastic container with lid
2. Roll of paper towels (good quality)
3. Household cleaner (I like the Lysol 4 in 1 as pictured)

Steps:
1. Cut paper towel roll in half using a sharp serrated knife. ( I used an electric knife)
2. Put one of the rolls in the plastic container and soak with cleaner liquid. Replace lid.
3. Let sit for 5 mins to allow paper towels to soak up liquid. Flip container upside down for 5 mins.
4. Remove cardboard roll from center.
5. Pull wipes from center as pictured below.

Just a swinging

Ladies and Gentlemen, we love the swing. At first we didn't like the swing and would scream. However, now that we are almost 3 months old, WE love it! It doesn't matter which direction it goes, side to side or front to back. We can't get enough of the swing!

Rolley polley

We have a little ninja in our house and she has decided that she is tired of being on her back and is trying to roll over onto her belly. We aren't quite there yet, but like the ninja she is she will surprise us when we least expect it. Watch out world!

And the winner is...

One of my fears came to fruition this evening. Clipping baby finger nails makes me nervous. I was so nervous that I cut one too short and caused one of Bethany's fingers to bleed. She cried and I freaked out. I am sure other things will happen for me to earn the title of "Mother of the year". I was doing so good until this. What have you done that makes you "mother of the year"?

Crib time

We have a big girl in our house. Little Miss Bethany wanted to sleep in her own crib last night for the first time. So we let her. Mom only check on her twice, which I think was good for me. All i have to say is thank goodness for monitors.

2 mo. Well child

Miss Bethany had her 2 mo. Well child check-up today. Weighing in at a whopping 11 lbs 10 oz, and 21 7/8 inches tall. She's 75% in weight and 50% in height. We didn't like the 2 shots we got today and she is a little cranky, and I don't blame her one bit. We liked the Rotateq virus syrup, which was a distraction from the shots for a second. I think the pink camo band aids help with the pain! So we have another sticker for the baby book and a well child!

Goodbye

You take the good,
you take the bad,
you take them all and
there you have the facts of life.

2011 had its ups and downs. Ups: the birth of our beautiful daughter. Downs: too many to go into detail. So I'm going to move on and look forward to 2012 and what it has in store for me. Who knows? Goodbye 2011, hello 2012!
